United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
Visitor Education
and Engagement
The Need
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) in Washington D.C. desired to launch an awareness campaign for its twenty-year anniversary. To support this, the USHMM marketing and visitor engagement team determined to add several interactive kiosks for their visitors.
The Solution
KDG developed and implemented an innovative visitor education solution for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum to further increase its visitors’ engagement and advocacy.
We worked closely with the USHMM marketing team to develop and deliver a technology-driven multimedia program for visitors’ participation during their visit to the museum.
By asking the question:
Who Will Tell Their Stories?
And suggesting the answer:
You Will.
The visitor is encouraged to select an individual victim, learn more, join the community, and carry the victim’s story forward. Understanding the plight deepens one’s empathy, and the story becomes more personal, learning what the victim went through.
This program is designed to:
- Promote human dignity, confront hate, preserve memory, and take action
- Ensure the permanence of Holocaust memory
- Honor victims and take an actual experience with you
- Take the step: “What can I do moving forward?”
- Build community and advocacy
- Provide an immediate donation
The program features:
- Database of searchable photographs and biographies
- Interactive 3-D name cloud selection
- Database-driven visitor registration with auto e-mail forwarding
- Real-time Google geo-mapping and individual visitor pinning
- PCI secure E-commerce transaction for donation
- Visitor analytics, tracking, and reporting
- Administrative dashboard
These kiosks have supported the museum’s efforts to educate museum visitors and empower them to advocate awareness to others including family and friends.
